CT Chest (Lungs)

A CT (computed tomography) scan of the lungs, often referred to as a chest CT or thoracic CT, is a medical imaging test that uses X-rays and computer technology to create detailed cross-sectional images of the chest area. It provides a more comprehensive view of the lungs, airways, blood vessels, and other structures within the chest compared to traditional X-rays.

A chest CT may be performed for various reasons, including:

1. Diagnosis of lung conditions: It can help diagnose and evaluate lung diseases such as pneumonia, tuberculosis, lung cancer, and pulmonary fibrosis.

2. Evaluation of chest trauma: CT scans are commonly used to assess injuries to the chest, such as fractures, pneumothorax (collapsed lung), and other traumatic injuries.

3. Monitoring lung diseases: For individuals with chronic lung conditions like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or interstitial lung disease, CT scans can be used to monitor disease progression and response to treatment.
